Sunsheetal® is based on polyurethane-acrylic blended elastomeric aqueous polymers. It is a high thermal emittance ceramic coating useful in the world of industrial and commercial buildings, as a roof coating system that has the ability to reflect the visible, infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths of the sun, thereby reducing heat transfer to the building.

Sunsheetal® is defined as a cool roof coating by virtue of its ability to radiate absorbed, or non-reflected solar energy. Solar heat incident on a roof is dissipated by means of three physical phenomena namely
  • A fraction of the absorbed heat is conducted to the ground and surrounding buildings

  • A fraction is dissipated by convection to air leading to higher air temperatures

  • A fraction is radiated to the sky.

As such one has no control over the first two phenomena but the third one, that is, the amount of heat radiated can be maximized by Sunsheetal® roof/ wall coatings that inherently possess high emittance values.   

Use of Sunsheetal® is particularly useful where the terrace covers an air conditioned space. A higher roof temperature necessarily leads to a higher load on the air-conditioning plant a reduction in roof temperature will result in lower roof temperature with consequent savings in power consumption.

Special Features
  • Sunsheetal® enhances durability of the roof and reduces both building cooling loads and the urban heat island effect.

  • Sunsheetal® is also an effective alternative to bulk attic insulations under roofs in humid tropical climates. Bulk insulation can be entirely replaced by Sunsheetal®   roof coatings that both reflect solar radiation and provide emission to the sky.

  • Sunsheetal® has excellent abrasion and water resistance it is also resistant to fungal growth

  • Sunsheetal® is recommended for reduction in the carbon foot print  of a building as it reduces fuel consumption of the air-conditioning plant.

  • In general  the roof temperature  is in the range of 60oC to 80oC in summer and this can be substantially reduced by coating the roof with Sunsheetal® , typically various types of roofs will show reduction ( after coating ) of surface temperature as indicated below

  • RCC terraces: 10oC to 12oC

  • Asbestos cement sheets: 12oC to 15oC

  • GI or powder coated sheets: Up to 20oC

The above figures are indicative and will vary according to ambient atmospheric conditions such as wind velocity etc.

Direction for use
  • Application areas to be cleaned with a hard brush to remove all dust, weak paint, fungus etc. Cleaned area to be washed with water.

  • The surface should be moist before application.

  • Stir the paint thoroughly before each use.

  • Apply first coat with brush on the cleaned & washed surface.

  • Apply second coat after a gap of minimum one hour.

  • Ensure that the coated area does not come in contact with water for at least one hour.

  • After completion of full coating, it should be allowed to cure for 24 hours

Coverage: One ltr. Sunsheetal® covers 40 sq.ft. area in double coat for smooth surface.

Colour: Off-white base. Tintable to any light shade, using appropriate strainer.
